This original painting captures a perspective of Chief Keef in 2012. I was in the 4th grade when love Sosa flooded the world and drill music hit the rap scene. Chief Keef, a teenager from Chicago, who would go on to become the face of a cultural shift that changed hip hop forever. At just 16 years old, he emerged as the leading voice of drill music, a raw and unfiltered sound born from Chicago's South Side. But more than a rapper, Chief Keef represented an entire new generation. Often misunderstood by outsiders, drill music was more than headlines and controversy, it was expression, documentation, and survival. In an era still dominated by traditional industry standards, Chief Keef showed that a young Black artist from the streets could build a global audience simply by being authentic.
