This oil painting highlights my personal favorite point guard to ever touch a basketball. The historic 2011 MVP season of Derrick Rose was absolutley legendary The youngest player in NBA history to ever win the league's Most Valuable Player award at just 22 years old. Growing up from the streets of Chicago's South Side, he became the face of a city that saw itself in his journey, work ethic, and resilience. Growing up in the suburbs outside Chicago. During the 2010–11 season, he averaged 25 points and 7.7 assists per game while leading the Chicago Bulls to the best record in the NBA. His explosive speed, humbled leadership, and acrobatic finishes made him one of the most electrifying point guards the game has ever seen.
For Chicago, Rose represented something deeper than basketball though. He was homegrown, from the slums, carrying the hopes of a city that takes pride in toughness, grit, and perseverance. His rise inspired countless young athletes across Chicago and throughout the Black community, proving that greatness could emerge from neighborhoods often overlooked by the world. This piece is a tribute to a cultural icon who embodied the struggle, and left an impact that continues to resonate far beyond the game itself.
